The designation Sheykh Obeyd is adopted from Lady Anne and Wilfred Blunt's stud farm in Egypt by that name. This name was chosen as a symbol of the collective effort of the seven original breeders in Egypt committed to this preservation cause, and the community spirit which evolved from their shared vision. The name does not imply that only the Blunt horses qualify under this designation. The Sheykh Obeyd Arabian
is one which meets both of these requirements: The Sheykh Obeyd horses can fall under several categories but some of the most recognized breeding groups are the Babson Egyptians, the Pritzlaff Egyptians, and the Doyle Egyptians or combinations thereof. Some of the early Ansata horses fit this group, as did Tuthomos & Fakher El Din. Many SO breeders concentrate on smaller combinations within these groups. |
